Rent.com has been keeping close tabs on rent prices across the country amid rising inflation rates, including monthly rental fees. The site looked at data from its multifamily rental property inventory to find how much rent prices have changed and to determine the increase or decrease based on a weighted average formula. Looking at the most recent data from August, Rent.com found some promising signs — and others that were more concerning....

For the study, which has been peer-reviewed and will be published in the journal Pediatrics, researchers analyzed data compiled from Aug. 1, 2021, through Nov. 21, 2021, on the COVID status of over 1,100 6th-12th graders in a North Carolina private school. The team found that unvaccinated students were eight times more likely to become infected with COVID-19 than vaccinated students. During the period in which the data was collected, the county the school is in was deemed a high transmission county by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the Delta variant causing 99% of reported cases county-wide....

What the new law does is amend the state’s definition of neglect by pointedly describing what does not constitute neglect. The language states that as long as a child’s “basic needs are met” and as long as a kid is “of sufficient age and maturity to avoid harm or unreasonable risk of harm,” it’s not considered neglectful for parents to allow children to do some pretty basic activities on their own....

A vaccine mandate presents people with a choice: get vaccinated or get a new job. The evidence so far suggests that the vast majority of workers are choosing to get vaccinated, making the mandates a rousing success in increasing vaccination rates within employers, which in turn of course raises them for the country as a whole, slows the spread of COVID-19 variants, and helps keep unvaccinated children much safer.
